Elektra grew up loving music and was always supported by her parents until she came out as gay to them via a song she had written. They told her never to play it again, or mention its contents, or they would disown her. Elektra chose to run away with nothing but her clothes, guitar, and a few demo CDs she'd burned. For the first few months she was couch surfing at her friends' places, but her parents decided that they were done letting her stay out and tried to get the police involved. In response, Octavia changed her name and left Portland altogether, hitchhiking her way up to Polaris Pass to try and start over.
