Affable - Eric is quick to try to make friends, a skill and habit he picked up on the road. Good humor and a positive reputation can drive off suspicion. Plus, being lonely all the time sucks.
Emotionally Detached - in his line of work, getting too emotionally invested in someone else is a liability. He learned that one the hard way. He does his best to avoid catching real feelings, keeping most of his new friends at arm's length in most regards.

"Michael Ericsson" is supposed to just be a queer guy who got booted out of his home partway through high school. He managed to work up enough money for a van at some point, which he says is "way cheaper and way more exciting than getting an apartment." Since then he's been traveling around mostly doing odd jobs for money, making friends, breaking hearts, that sort of thing.
