To sleepers, Mioko looks like an ordinary young Japanese woman, except with blue eyes and apparently dyed pink hair.
Personality
Soft-Spoken: Mio is a soft, shy, quiet little thing. She tends to keep to herself and flusters easily. Don’t let that fool you, though. She’s usually smiling, if in a somewhat measured way, and opens up quickly when approached. She’s a social thing, but far from loud.
Complacent: Mioko has, generally, accepted her station. She’s created a bond with her master and a life for herself within her confines. Mio has given up on escape, and with acceptance has come peace. Hope, after all, is a dangerous thing. Especially when leaving means death.
Clumsy: By all accounts, Mioko should register as someone graceful. She’s delicate, peaceful, put together. Mioko, however, is a clutz. She drops things, forgets tasks, runs into door frames… She makes countless little mistakes throughout the day. It’s left her a bit insecure, so she tends to overcompensate through intense concentration and planning.
Abilities
- Ability Format
- Standard, Spellcasting
- Advantages
- + Beast Tongue
+ Green Thumb
+ Intuitive Aptitude (Local Ecology)
+ Magic Sense
+ Minor Illusion
+ Unique Sense (Location & type of living/unliving supernatural beings she can otherwise hear, see, smell, or feel naturally)
- Disadvantages
- - Life-Bound (Witch Master, Mary Aibileen Saxton)
- Magically Dependant
- Magical Vulnerability
- Sleepy
- Under Orders (Aibileen Saxton)
- Restricted Diet (Obligate Herbivore/Vegan)
- Spellcasting
- Mundane Magic: A variety of weak but useful magic abilities, the type expected of a witch’s assistant or familiar. Minor potions and miscellaneous incantation, telekinesis, magically deep pockets, auto-baking some very magical brownies. You know the drill.
Space-Time Genjutsu: The manipulation of someone’s perception of space, time, and movement. This can be as simple as tripping someone over an imaginary log, to trapping someone in a plane of infinite wandering. Those with Mental Immunity and/or appropriate magical wards & charms are completely immune to this ability.
- Core Advantage
- True Invisibility:
Mio can turn invisible at will. This is a true invisibility that cannot be tracked with magical or technological abilities, including heat sense, blindsight, electrograph, or otherwise. Characters with Magic Sense (or equivalent through items/spellcasting) can track her, and so can her master whom she is bound to. This ability fails if perceived by a sleeper before activation, at least until the sleeper leaves or is distracted long enough for Mio to have reasonably left scene.
- Core Disadvantage
- Sticks and Stones:
Bludgeoning damage dealt by lengths of wood (such as a bat, broomstick, drumstick, branch/stick, etc), when yielded by a sapient creature as a weapon, does x2+ damage. Additionally, getting hit by such wooden objects reduces her to ½ human abilities and temporarily disables her Core, Spellcasting, and active-use advantages for up to 15 minutes. Sticks must be at least approx. 1ft long to disable her abilities, but the “strike” can be as weak as a small tap and needs not cause her physical harm.
- Bonus
- Extra spellcasting type.
- Nerfs and Flavor
- Life-Bound:
This binding is mutual, as Mioko’s magic & longevity is what currently fuels her Master’s eternal life. They have, to some degree, a supernatural insight into the other’s health status and general location. Their conditions are also somewhat linked, meaning if one catches a cold, the other won’t feel fantastic and so on. If one is dying, the other will know.

History
- Date of Birth
- March 7th
- Place of Birth
- Hidden yokai village in Japan
Mioko was originally born to two happy, loving nurikabe parents. They didn’t have human forms at this point, and lived in a hidden yokai village deep in Japan. Her parents’ timeless roles aided in the protection of the village via illusion magic, as well as their connections to the local lands. Her childhood up until the age of 9-10 was peaceful, idyllic even.
Things changed when hunters discovered the village. With knowledge of their weaknesses, the hunters easily bypassed her parents’ defenses. They died defending the adults of the village, while an underdeveloped Mio tried in vain to defend the children. Her efforts failed when a hunter struck her with a branch, knocking her unconscious. By the time she woke the first time, she was in chains, and caused a sincere ruckus with her invisibility. The second time she awoke, those chains negated magic.
Mio was sold at auction to the highest bidder, still in her original form. This bidder was none other than Aibileen Saxton, the greatest damn bog witch Mississippi’s delta had ever produced. They quickly discovered Mio’s lack of hands (and general size) was more cumbersome than helpful, and so her form was forcefully traded for that of a humanoid one. Permanently, as far as Mio knows. They also did a few… other spells, including Life Bind and Familiar Bind, which placed her at Aibileen’s mercy.
Living with Aibileen has been… decent, barring a few inconveniences. Being at someone’s irrefutable beck and call has its downsides, of course. Being a magical battery can be draining too. Aibileen’s a bit out-of-touch with things like “human rights” and “moral obligations,” but they’re working on that. Sorta. Mio is, anyway. In the meantime, she serves. She aids. She fuels. And in the spaces between, she tries to build a life for herself. Something small, something peaceful. And she never dares to fantasize about escape.
They moved to Polaris Pass a couple months ago, seeking a larger community of witches and resources. Now that their home base is relatively set up and secure, Mioko has more time to roam.
