- Muscular in a lithe way, with a triangular chest and long limbs. Dark skin with thick patches of body hair. Has a tattoo of a Hei Tiki on his left calf and foot, which remains faintly visible in his werewolf form. His fur in this form is a split-color brindle pattern of dark dusty brown, gray, and light tan, with a long banded tail
- Face
- A sharp, angular face with a wide nose. He has a long scar over his right eye and an intricate tattoo under his left one, both of which remain visible in werewolf form. He has slightly pointed ears, in which he wears gold fang-shaped gauges.
- Eyes
- Sharp, upturned eyes with black sclera and heterochromia. The left eye has a violet-blue color while the right is orange-red. He has obvious trouble seeing out of the latter.
- Hair
- Long silky straight hair that he loosely braids but otherwise allows to hang free. It matches his coat color, being dark dusty brown with streaks of light blondish gray throughout.
- Clothes
- Given his size and profession, every suit that Tāne owns is custom tailored. During the full moon he can be seen wearing a metal collar covered in silver-tipped spikes.

- Sleepers see Tāne's eyes as brown/blue instead of red/purple.
Personality
Tāne learned a great respect for academia from his mother, who insisted that he keep his grades up even as a child. But his nature prevents him from being satisfied with just learning secondhand or sitting in a dusty office. He likes to get out there and explore the areas, cultures, and phenomena that are the object of his specialization.
His upbringing between his rigorous school life and his training with the pack he was adopted into made Tāne a fast learner with a sharp attention for detail. But they also saddled him with a very dry, almost cynical sense of humor that can lead to him making an ass of himself.
Having had perfection pushed on him all throughout his childhood, Tāne likes to keep a short leash on anything that he's involved with. Any failure by someone underneath him is his own failure at maintaining control over the project, not that he won't take his frustrations out on the offender as well. Just to say that he will beat himself up as hard or harder than he will them.

Tāne was born from a short term affair between a German academic living temporarily in New Zealand and a Maori werewolf. Nothing was thought about the fling until she returned home and realized that she was pregnant. Life quickly took a turn for the weird during the infant's first full moon, which awakened his mother instantly.
She sought help from a relatively close pack of werewolves, who agreed to take the pup under their wings and teach him how to use his abilities responsibly. Unfortunately their methods were brutal, and when the young Tāne could stand on his own, they began training him to fight, to command his aggression and to fall into the structure of the pack. Failures meant harsh punishments that his mother didn't learn about until he felt comfortable speaking to her about them years later.
Eventually he rejected this structure and opted to take the lessons he'd found valuable and leave the rest. At some point he got his degree in anthropology with a minor in archaeology. During his graduate level work, he moved to New Zealand and got in contact with his father. Here he began getting more in touch with his Maori heritage, and took to using the name Tāne which he had been given by his mother in honor of his father.
His research into the supernatural communities that existed around human cultures brought him to the attention of the Olcott Institute, where he was offered a position and the ability to do research that otherwise wouldn't get funding in a mundane academic setting.
Most recently he has come to Polaris Pass because of the campus that Olcott University is opening nearby, and because of an anthropological curiosity uncovered from the ocean and stored in Portland for study.
