Since the time of the great fall, the light angels of the outposts and the shadow demons have been at war. The angels keeping the shadow demons from raiding other realms, the shadow demons trying to take what they could.
•Angels of light, that built floating military outposts in the void between realms to watch the shadow demons. Founder was the twin brother of the shadow lord, but sided against the fallen.
•Because of the isolated nature of their location each outpost exists as a sort of city state. Each one is self sustaining, with agriculture and such. Each one approaches its operations a bit differently, with many appointing an archangel to lead the outpost.
•Different outposts will often trade the adult children of the archangels in arranged marriage.
•The outposts largely favor combative angels in their society, mainly because of the military nature of their origin. As such warrior angels are favored and sought out, angels with little to no aptitude or abilities for combat are viewed as lesser. Angels with healing abilities are viewed as useful but still not nearly as favored as warriors.
•The outpost angels all hold a deep disdain of demons, but they also hold a dislike for other beings that might potentially be viewed as semi unholy. Nightmare beings for example while not necessary demonic are viewed as negative beings and so are disliked.

•The original shadow demon was an archangel who was in charge of night, shadow and darkness. Fell when he sided with Lucifer, took a section of Hell as his domain, with it often being calmed the Shadow Realm.
•Over time they developed a social structure based on appearance and how closely one is related to the original shadow angels that fell with the shadow lord. Those with more monstrous physical attributes are lower rank in society, the more monstery they look the lower level they are.
•The Nobility retain much of their angelic features (albeit diminished) because of selective breeding, with inbreeding being practiced, though demon biology keeps genetic issues from arising So they all largely look human, hair colors are mostly black, with some grays and even whites, skin is largely pale, eyes are often black, most have black feathered wings.
•The Lower Class Demons have a lot more variation. Many have the stereotypical horns and tails demons often have, though instead of goat like legs their legs are usually a bit more reptilian at times. Skin tones usually come in varying shades of grays and blues, hair and eyes varying even more. Shifting ones appearance to seem less monstery is strictly forbidden.
•While not "nocturnal" in the Shadow Realm they general lean towards nocturnal life when in other realms. This is largely because the Shadow Realm doesn't have day or night, it largely seems to be in a perpetual state of late evening.
•Shadow Hell has a large capital city, with smaller settlements spread throughout. The unsettled regions are wild and dangerous, filled with wild demonic beasts. Deeper in there are unstable portals to other realms that fade and appear.
•Entrance in and out of the Shadow Realm is strictly controlled. The one main gate is controlled by the nobility and their military, with use of the gate monitored by guards who will attack and capture anyone who attempts to sneak through.
•While not as numerous as the angelic outposts the shadow demons have built some of their own at the edge of the void. Used to monitor and harass their angelic rivals.
•In the center of the capital city is the well of souls. This is where any damned souls end up as shadow demons are largely uninterested in them. This well is essentially a large pool of swirling spirit energy and anyone who enters it seems to break apart and fade, as if they never existed.
