Personality
Spitful: Being a rental NEK0 meant that, unlike others of his kind, Leo never had a single master to condition him. He's been passed around by different people and groups, seen how they behave with each other and how they behave with his kind, and was able to figure out early on that there was something very wrong with his treatment. As such, his past is a great source of anger and bitterness, and he hates to be perceived as weak or anything resembling an inferior being.
Low Key: Leo doesn't want to bring too much attention to himself. Old habits are hard to shake and slaves who speak out of line tend to be disciplined. He tries to watch what he says and tends to keep obvious signs of his emotions in check, though this often results in the occasional snark slipping through, or more explosive outbursts once they hit a boiling point.
Shame: His NEK0 features are a point of unfortunate shame for him, despite himself. Being aware of the disadvantages inherent to his body and mind make it difficult to really see himself as a free person, and as much as he hides his cat traits to avoid detection from the company it's in equal parts because he doesn't like acknowledging them.

Like other's of his kind, Leo was created in a lab for the sole purpose of being sold as a slave. He was originally made as a custom order. However, his buyer ended up dying before he could complete the transaction. In order to recoup their losses, he was instead used as a rental NEK0. The company would loan him off to a person or persons for a period of time, letting them do whatever they wanted with him before recalling him and repeating the process.
Leo was forced to endure indignities from many for pretty much his entire life. Some of his temporary masters had him for more menial purposes and allowed him certain freedoms, while many others were more cruel. The only common factor was that he did not matter to them at all, valued as an object and nothing more.
Years of this, and exposure to many people, both masters and other NEK0, lead to him eventually forming a hatred for how he and the others were treated. The first and only time he acted on this, however, resulted in the loss of his eye, followed by immediate recall to the company.
As much as he would like to claim his escape was the result of some master plan he concocted, in reality, it was just dumb luck. During the trip back, the car he was being transported within got into a bad crash close by to Polaris Pass, killing the driver and injuring him, though not so much to keep himself from limping away from the wreckage. After removing his control chip using the first sharp object he could find, he was eventually found by one Darrin Moore, who took him in and gave him a place to lay low while he recovered.
