Kai Eichmann

Original History Post - Pre Nek0 Arc:

Kai Eichmann came into being on the 22nd May 1951. One of the last changelings to be born in the forests surrounding Neuenburg am Rhein. Here he remained, kept in a permanent larval state by the Rye Mother until such a time he was needed by his clan. No such time came and instead after the torching of his forest and the massacre of his kind by humans, Kai was thrust into the world as the last changeling to have taken form. He would have perished in that fire had it not been for his father hearing his cries and coming to rescue him.

He spent his early years living with his father in another forest who taught him everything he could to ensure the ways of his clan survived and that Kai could master his powers. Eventually his father had managed to amass some wealth and they eventually used that to integrate into human society as though they had always been humans and moved into a reasonable house in the nearby town. It was here Kai attended some schools in Germany although having had a late start compared to the other children struggled to fit. Eventually his father had amassed even more wealth, to the point where he made the decision to have Kai be home schooled instead. while his father would continue his own lessons with the aim of ensuring that they could find a different Feldgeister clan and one day re-join their old life. A life that Kai had never known and wasn't sure if he even wanted.

This began a process of slowly isolating Kai and his family who only really interacted with the outside world through controlled and limited means. As his father continued to become richer, something Kai never really understood considering he never seemed to work, this led to them falling into the circles of German high society and socialites, something Kai was never really a huge fan of. Most of the people around him seemed so narcissistic and self absorbed, something his father had deliberately sought out to ensure that at least people wouldn't ask questions about where his wealth was coming from and to protect Kai from prying eyes who might suspect something if his powers slipped, but he managed to make some friends and at least he wasn't in the house alone with his father. At this point they got along fairly well but at times their relationship was starting to strain. With his father being too stubborn and old fashioned for Kai's liking.

One day, without warning his father told him they would be moving to America. Kai didn't want to go, he had finally found a group he didn't mind being with however he was given little choice. They settled in New York and continued to live a version of their old life, with Kai's only reprieve from an increasingly insular and paranoid father being different versions of the same surface level elegant but otherwise vapid and self important individuals who he had left behind in Germany. This however was at least a familiar environment to him so once again he tried to find happiness and adapt making some close friends while doing so although growing ever less fond of this lifestyle. Plus with access to the internet, Kai was starting to learn of a much greater world out there that nobody else seemed to have the same interested in.

Another sudden move came when his father informed him of a supernatural community on the other side of the country, again giving Kai no warning or choice. Kai, annoyed that he would be removed from his friends yet again began to resent his father.

Now in Polaris Pass, with their relationship becoming more fraught by the day, exacerbated by the fact that Polaris Pass was nothing like what his father had in mind and driving him to keep them even more isolated than ever, Kai wanted out. He was sick of his father and being so isolated. He missed his friends and hated his overbearing father who clung to some past existence he had no want or care for while preventing him from finding the best version of a life he had always existed in but never lived. Always being told that he wouldn't fit in if he let his magic slip, that he was different and that the world wouldn't be kind to him if they found out what he really was. It began to take a toll on Kai but he didn't care anymore, he was well aware of the risks but didn't care. And as his desire to leave the house grew, so too did his resentment to his father. This didn't go unnoticed and after many nights of arguing, eventually his father relented. For the first time in a long time, Kai would be going back to school and would be allowed to step back out into the human world once again.
