Personality
Duty-Bound and Dead Tired. Kurumi is a tax-paying, law-abiding adult because that's what she has to be. She doesn't want her daughter to end up in the same crowds that she did, and tries to set herself as a good example for Emiko. She goes to work and makes responsible, boring decisions for herself because that's what a responisble adult should do. Juggling her responsibilities often leaves her tired and, even when not iritable, still with an edge to her.
Nostalgic for her wild days. Kurumi misses the days that she spent as an outlaw, and has a habit of getting lost in the nostalgia of it. If allowed and in the company of other responsible adults, she will brag endlessly about the 'good old days'. She sees those days an inexoribly behind her though, and as much as she loves her daughter there's no small amount of resentment towards the man who fathered her and then vanished.
Doting Mother, maybe too much. Because she doesn't want Emiko to make the same mistakes that she did, Kurumi can be rather strict on her daughter. This comes as a sense of overbearing helicoptor parenting. She wants very much to trust her daughter, but it wasn't that long ago that she was making mistakes that very nearly cost her her life. And when she thinks about Emiko getting into trouble like that, the worry nearly kills her.

History
Born to a clan of Oni who had given up their marauding ways, Kurumi earned her nickname for her penchant of headbutting things under the assurance that her skull was thicker than whatever she intended to break with it. A wild child, she was ill-suited for the passive lifestyle that her parents tried to bring her up in. So at a young age, she stole her family's heirloom weapon and vanished into more urban areas.
She lived as a vagrant for several years through her adolescence, moving between small-time gangs and vanishing if the heat ever got too bad. Kurumi was enamored with the dying Bōsōzoku culture, and styled herself as a sukeban despite how outdated the whole thing had become by the time she really encountered it.
Her massive thirst for excitement and adventure put her in the path of one Brian Hadley, a Catholic agent who was hunting a monster for his order. His original intent was to only get information out of the Oni, but after much insistence that she could help he let her tag along on the job. As they worked, the two of them grew close very quickly and their chemistry almost got Kurumi killed. She was distracted when they confronted the monster, and took a serious blow that might have killed her if Hadley hadn't intervened.
He pushed her away ostensibly to keep her safe, but his sudden disappearance hurt Kurumi severely and left her alone to raise their child. With sudden responsibility thrust upon her, Kurumi didn't have a choice but to straighten herself out and stop playing gangster. She went through common channels to get herself and her daughter registered as citizens, then worked hard to give her daughter the stable life that she'd so carelessly taken for granted in her own childhood.
Eventually though, she realized that she needed a support net to help with Emiko's particular quirks. Wanting a change of scenry for them both, she moved herself and her daughter to the closest supernatural hub in the United States: Polaris Pass.
