Bird form - 20 feet tall, 40 foot wingspan. An enormous bird, the colour of embers, reddish-brown. With glowing yellow eyes, wicked looking talons, and a tongue that resembles a flame.

Personality Description: Storyteller. Enjoys both telling and listening. Fiery temper, but not hasty. Mature. Bit of a grandma, though she's never had children of her own. Settled. Bold woman. Proud. Has seen a lot. Still a little wistful for her first love. Looks for long lasting meaningful relationships both friendship and otherwise, but is not opposed to a friends with benefits situation. Enjoys hiking and hunting. Occasionally participates in the arena to keep herself in shape.

Species Abilities:
Longevity - Ages much slower than a normal human, could potentially live 2000-3000 years

Fire resistant - will not be harmed by normal fire, magic fire/dragon breath does half damage and can still be fatal. Things like magma affect her as usual.

Cold weakness - any magic/attacks based on cold, ice, snow do double damage.

Bird form - shifts at will. enormous, unwieldy form on the ground. Could reach a top speed of 15 mph, sprinting, but would tire quickly. Slows to a crawl in below freezing temperatures. flight - can reach a top speed of 50mph, but usually averages around 20 mph, flying tires her out as much as running and she could only maintain top speed for about 30 minutes before becoming too tired to fly without at least 30 minutes rest. Only 15 minutes at top speed in temperatures below freezing. Talons strong and sharp enough to rip through bone as if it was paper. Very strong - could lift and carry a full grown African elephant. Skin as tough as strong leather. Cannot shift at all when it's snowing.

Powers:
Avian flamethrower - In bird form can generate fireballs they can control and throw. A fireball about basketball size she could throw as far and accurately as a top professional pitcher. She could produce about 50 of these a day. normal fire. can't control after launch. Max size varies with ambient temperature

Heat generation - In human form, can produce a bubble of heat that extends out an inch from her body, can get hot enough to boil water in seconds. Can maintain for 15 minutes before she starts to be affected by the heat, 15 minutes more to feel the heat at full strength, which could potentially be fatal. Must rest for 5 minutes plus however many minutes she goes over 15 between each use.

Biography: A daughter of Genghis Khan. Befriends Lysander and becomes his wife along with her lover so that they can be together. A warrior herself. Travels with him, they eventually part ways. Run into each other a few more times. Runs into oricenta during hunt in Mongolia. Eventually discovered - was one of the first inhabitants of Manta Carlos. Has lived there fairly regularly for 200+ years. Keeps herself fit sparring in various arenas. Settled down and runs a tea shop. Becomes Leila guardian at some point, also technically watching Smokey.

A lanky young man with multiple scars, Grayson mostly looks tired. Dark hair with dyed blond streaks. Hair is poufy on top, shaved on the sides. Naturally tanned with eyes that look reddish in certain light, but are actually brown. Has a whip, a compass, and a trench coat. Wears glasses.

Personality Description: Tired, seen a lot, stoic. Keeps his distance.

Biography:


Grayson is somewhere in the 18-20 range, maybe a little older, but even he's unsure because time has always done weird things around him. His body speeds up periodically, without his control, but usually based on stress - he becomes so fast that he cannot properly interact with people. It will also occasionally slow down, but this doesn't seem to happen as often. The time fluctuations weren't as bad when he was younger, though it was still hard to keep him fed, which is why he's always been malnourished. But once he hit puberty the time episodes started to increase in strength and duration, until he appeared to travel through time, but had actually cut through into another duration.

This continues for a few years until he reaches a dimension of magic where he is given a special whip. This whip allows him to cut a temporary tear when he begins speeding up, so that he can avoid being forced into a new dimension. Unfortunately it doesn't stop the time fluctuations completely, but at least now he has a chance to make connections. Grayson is kind of jaded and lonely. He's been through some rough patches.

Alternate idea - traveling musician. Supernatural talent. Annoys/competes with a powerful demon or god? Still has time fluctuations. Whip allows dimension travel - was prize? Was a mixed blessing. Dimension traveling caused time instability. Compass does something.

Another idea - Born with time fluctuations. Demigod? Cumulative effect. Catches attention of god who gives him whip. Whip allows dimension travel which resets fluctuations. Doesn't have much choice but to be explorer. Found compass that points to nearest living human. Has had some encounters with magic but nothing like MC. Different times?

A bit taller than average, 5'11", Ariel looks like a normal human from a distance. Up close, his naturally black hair is dusted with a white powdery substance, and his olive skin shades to black at his hands, feet, and neck. Ariel cannot cry, instead his pure black eyes are rimmed with mold. Their hands and feet have a mushroomlike texture and can extend into hyphae up to double his height in length.

Ariel takes care with his appearance, wearing good quality clothes, and always trying to be as neat and put together as possible. His style is understated classic clothes and he usually wears a trenchcoat. They can come off as distant, holding themself apart from people, with a neutral expression and a tendency to stare. Though they are soft spoken, Ariel talks with his hands and makes a lot of gestures to punctuate his speech. He has a light Spanish accent.

Personality Description: Merging with the nymph has left Ariel changed, traces of her personality lingering, though not enough to be separate from his. They have been left with a persistent sense of unreality/dissociation from themself. Sometimes other people seem alien and places/people he's known his whole life are unfamiliar. Ariel has always had a hard time making friends, his family being the only people other than the nymph he ever felt close to. The new distance between them hurts, though he hides it.

Stoic. Ariel will suffer in silence as well as preferring to enjoy things privately. In public they do not like to show who they are, and are also a bit vain, concerned with appearances. He does not like to be a burden or for people to pay much attention to him. Though they also like being admired for their looks. They are not particularly social, but they enjoy people-watching or one-on-one interactions. They also like seeing people enjoy themselves with something they had a hand in creating. Willing to lend a hand, Ariel won't ask for help himself, and is slow to accept if it is offered.

Patient when learning, but easily frustrated trying to explain himself or teach. When they are deciding whether to do something they are more likely to go with what feels right, even when they take time to consider. Ariel looks before he leaps then leaps anyway.

Active Abilities:
Druidic Divination - Has a talent for divination using three methods - Botanomancy (burning herbs, particularly sage, and watching the smoke); Comnyomany (growing onions; and Augury (birdwatching). Can use these methods to answer a simple yes/no question, determine a favorable course, predict the weather. Less reliable farther into the future or vaguer the question. Anything further than a week is no more reliable than a guess.

Druidic Rituals - Used to be able to perform more powerful ritual magic, but illness has limited him to simple quality of life incantations, such as removing dirt from clothes or heating a cup of tea. Can only affect inanimate objects.

Hyphae - Allows him to "smell" people like an extra long nose. Can also be used to get nutrients from organic material, only as harmful as licking would be. This is similar to taking a multivitamin and not a replacement food source.

Psychotropic Tears - Eyes produce a small amount of mold that causes mild euphoria and visual hallucinations when ingested. Would have to lick his face to get any real effect, and the effects only last a few minutes.

Passive Abilities:
Nymph Allure - Within 5' Ariel exudes an air of exotic mystery that draws people's attention and invites curiousity. Does not otherwise make them seem attractive or get people to like them.

Fungal Immunity - Immune to fungus-based toxins/illness.

Weaknesses:
Sensitivity to Touch - Low pain tolerance. Quick to feel pain from high Heat/Cold, holding an ice cube or hot cup of coffee would feel like being stabbed. They are easily overwhelmed by things like hugs or woolly sweaters.

Light Sensitivity - Bright light hurts his eyes. Sunburns easily.

Vinegar is Poison - It burns like hydrochloric acid.

Sickly - Physically weak, tired, anemic.

Biography: Born in Spain to a member of the Del Bosque family, Ariel was a younger middle child. He was always a quiet child and he kind of got left to his own devices because his other siblings were more rambunctious. Being partially deaf from birth delayed his speech a bit and he was more interested in watching things and exploring outside.

At a young age, Ariel befriended a fungus nymph living on his parents' land. He became enchanted by her, spending most of his time with her, learning more about magic and nature. This caused him to distance himself more from most people other than family. And attending private school didn't do much to increase his socialization, although he did fine educationally.

Other than the magic, which was kept to family, Ariel had a fairly normal life. Once done with his primary education, he went to a university, close enough to home that he could make frequent visits, and interned at a Del Bosque owned winery, with plans to become a winemaker himself.

His nymph friend becomes sick of unknown causes while he is away at university. When he returned to his only friend dying, it was easy for her to persuade him to perform a ritual together to stabilize her by forming a bond so she could draw on his physical nature, being mostly magic and spirit herself. The bonding itself works too well and they completely merge.

Unfortunately, though the ritual mitigates the effects and slows the illness somewhat, it doesn't completely stop it, leaving Ariel weakened and sickly, also making it difficult to pass for human up close.

Since he had relatives already on Manta Carlos, Ariel decided to go to there to see if the more magical environment would help while they search for a more permanent solution. They also hope being in a new place will lessen the jarring unfamiliarity. He plans to continue his education, as well as internship in the family business in this new location.

Resources: Has enough money for a small bachelor apartment. Making money from internship and some freelance divination. Spends carefully.

Om is short for their age, only 4'11", with a petite but lightly masculine build. Their small features are androgynously pretty, and they have dark eyes and shortish black hair. Their skin is naturally tan, though slightly paler than it would be because of living mostly underground. They look aesthetically pleasing to living beings though not necessarily attractive.

So used to wearing a mishmash of whatever clothes the goblins got off people or made themselves, Om tends not to care about their style much. Fidgety, yet with a graceful walk, Om is a distracted, fast talker with a tendency to stutter. They are used to close quarters and dark spaces, and they still walk with a bit of a crouch, blinking a lot in the light. Even though they do know English they've been speaking the goblin language for so long they've developed an accent. They speak more "properly" when they're trying to get things from people.

Personality Description:
Om is an extrovert and will seek out people's company, but much prefers one-on-one or a small group to crowds. They hate being alone with their thoughts. When dealing with other goblins or people they consider friends they want to take the direct route, and they don't like people who waste time or talk in circles. Yet when convincing outsiders to give them supplies they can be quite deceitful, using their good looks and innocent act to get what they want. One of Om's favourite activities is sculpting; They're not very good at it, but they like the feeling of clay under their hands and the idea of creating something, even if it's usually lopsided bowls.

They know they're not actually a goblin but that does not matter. To other people that's what they'd call themself. The goblins are their tribe and family. The tribe are scavengers, hunters, and storytellers, and so is Om. They are used to being a pretty face and have a limited understanding of personal property. They've also gotten fairly crafty, good at using limited materials to amuse themself.

The continued use of goblin magic has had some effects on their mental state. They are easily distracted, overwhelmed by large crowds, and have trouble focusing for long periods of times. Jumpy, twitchy, and easily startled.

Active Abilities:
Fascinating - If concentrating can stun a single living being within 5' who can see them. This effect lasts about 5 minutes with non-sapient creatures, a few seconds for sapient, or until Om is out of range. Once the stun has ended the same being cannot be stunned again until it has left and reentered the range. And the effect is weaker each time.

Passive Abilities:
Supernatural Beauty - Aesthetically pretty to anyone living who sees them.

Weaknesses:
Dulled Pain - While under effects of the goblin ritual pain is delayed and distant. They have to pay close attention to avoid injury.

Side Effects - Must go through the goblin magic ritual every week or the pain caused by their disorder returns even stronger. Also experiences withdrawallike symptoms, not fatal but enough to make them very sick. The magic is not exactly meant for humans and makes them twitchy and agitated, especially on the day of the ritual.

Biography: Born fragile, with a physical disorder that left them weak and in constant pain, Tom was also strangely beautiful. In their large family their medical problems were a strain, requiring a lot of medication from a very young age. They were practically forced into being a child model, told that they owed it to their family. The high pressure modeling, drugs, and being taken advantage of by many people left their marks. At 10 Tom finally ran away from home.

They ended up camping out in a forest near their home, and probably wouldn't have lasted more than a couple days before going back, but they lucked into being found by a couple of goblins in the woods, who fascinated by their beauty, brought them back to the tribe. Scared and alone, Tom went with these strange creatures. The goblin healer, sensing the child's pain, did a ritual to heal him. It was not a permanent fix, but Tom was hooked. They decided to stay with the goblins, and the goblins, excited by the pretty human jewel, raised them as their own. Even if Tom had wanted to go home, they were also quickly lost in the enclave's magical tunnel system, which connected to forests that were cities away via portals. The child was listed as missing, but they were hidden too well to be found, and they adapted well to this almost childlike society of underground dwelling scavengers.

As a goblin, Om was well loved and cared for. They were the face of the goblins, able to coax food and supplies out of people much easier. They could have stayed this way for a long time. Even though Om did sometimes wish for the company of their own species, and even occasionally missed their human family.

Unfortunately, there came a time when some of the magic in the goblin tunnels failed, splitting the already small tribe in half. A group of the goblins traveling overland to reconnect were caught by hunters and unable to escape. Not long after that scouts arrived. After rescuing the split off group the oncoming death of magic was explained to everyone, and the tribe decided to relocate to Manta Carlos and hopefully avoid another tunnel collapse incident or worse.

Now able to be a part of a larger society without having to hide, the few goblin children and some of the younger adults, including Om, were enrolled into Starlight Academy.

Resources: Living in the goblin tunnels with the other goblins. And provided for by the tribe. They still mostly hunt for food and scavenge.

Appearance:
At 5'10", Tom is roughly average height, a skinny guy, more pretty than handsome, but not one who would stand out in a crowd. He has straight brown hair and brown eyes. Other than his pale skin, with his fangs usually retracted there's nothing about him to mark him out as vampire. Though clearly a guy, with his long hair, clean-shaven face, and somewhat delicate features, Tom can appear quite feminine in the right light. His style is sort of bad boy, and he tries to appear tough, with a studded leather jacket and rings or bracelets, but if you look closely there's a haunted look in his eyes and a tremor in his hands. He also has various scars, mostly on his arms, from pre-change drug use and medical procedures - the worst things done to him were done as a vampire, leaving no visible marks.

Personality:
A person can be more than an addict, but Tom has become almost defined by that trait. He will always put himself first. Even if he is lonely, guilty about hurting those who do become his friends, he is an utterly unreliable coward who will betray anyone to avoid sacrificing himself. He is driven to stop the pain, get his fix at any cost. He has book smarts, but is much better with books than people. An introvert who plays at extroversion to mask his emptiness and low self esteem. His lack of self control makes him easily manipulated, and his morals are dictated by whoever he perceives to be the toughest, very responsive to authority figures. Tom is almost as desperate for affection as he is for blood and drugs, and might seem to be a good friend, as long as he never has to choose between friendship and saving his own skin. His time with the biker gang has left him more fearful and jumpy than he used to be, easily startled and avoidant of touch, though also desensitized to violence against others.

History:
Tom was dealt a rough hand from the start, the third child of a lower middle class family in the US, he was born with a rare genetic disorder that left him in constant pain. Not a fatal illness, but still an added burden on his family that was not appreciated by his older siblings, though his parents tried the best they could to help.

At first he tried to make do with painkillers, but they were not a wealthy family, and the added strain of doctor's bills was just too much sometimes. He eventually got into drugs at school and things sort of spiraled from there. As long as he did his school work, Tom's family turned a blind eye, so he never really had anyone stop him. And he was smart enough to get by, though already gaining a reputation as an unreliable friend.

Tom managed to get into college in his hometown, making friends with a loner who didn't know better. And then he messed with the wrong people. He got drugs from a biker gang, run by a vampire no less, but was unprepared to make the payment, sacrificing his best friend to save his own skin. This did not work out well, as he ended up getting shot, and watching as the gang did horrible things to the other guy. And the gang still wanted payment.

He thought he was going to die, and after they turned him, he wished he had. He was stuck with them now. Starved. Worse addict as a vampire than he ever was as a human. And he did worse things, or had them done to him, because now he owed the gang his life and had no one to help him weasel out of the cost.

(They might've kept him even longer than they did, but one of the more senior members was caught committing a crime that could've gotten the whole gang in jail, and Tom took the fall just to escape them. The police catching a vampire caught the interest of the supernatural authorities and he was sent off to Mason.) Need to change.

Has a bad tendency to view tragedy as 'god works in mysterious ways' and appear cold as a result. All God's creatures are wonders of creation. (He might have gotten himself bitten a few times).
