Cis-Male; he/him

Awakened Human

Unemployed, Drug Dealer

Appearance
A large, somewhat normal dude with short dark hair, soft lips, and striking ice-blue eyes.
Personality
Gruff and kinda socially awkward. Short fuse.
Abilities
Cool gun
Situation
Fresh out of juvie, homeless & living in his car, but has a decent amount of money he put away before juvie

Appearance

Height
5'11.5" lol
Body
Muscular. Broad frame with lots of strong muscle mass, but his body fat percentage creates a softer type of definition for them. Has a few big scars, including several from bullets (some missed, some clearly hit).
Face
Strong jawline with a softer corner. Generally soft features, plush kissable lips, bold brows. Almost pretty/kinda softboi features, despite his bulky cis-masculine presentation.
Eyes
Ice blue like a husky. Deep-set with thick, dark, rather long lashes.
Hair
Floats between buzzed and fluffy, and grows very fast. Very dark brown.
Clothes
Sweatshirts, joggers, track suits, etc. Lowkey practical shit, lots of gray and black, nothing valuable. Always wearing an unbranded silver-metal watch.
Other
Voice: Deeper, warmer, a little gruff, always sounds a little like he just woke up. Kind of an Oakland hood accent, further influenced by his crowd and rep in juvie.

Fitness: He works out pretty religiously, sometimes multiple times a day.

Personality

Gruff, Awkward: Elijah’s not the most… socially adept. He’s gruff, with muted expressions, and can seem like an asshole even when he doesn’t mean to. Like, he’s just kinda… uncomfortable when he’s not alone—and even then. He’s not very well spoken, nor is he very patient or good at things like metaphors and nuance, and he doesn’t like to be teased unless he knows it’s all pure banter. You won’t find him starting many fights, at least not from his perspective… but by god will he finish them.

Untrusting, Closed Off: Not trusting anyone in the world gets lonely, especially once you’ve lost the only family you’ve ever known to boot, and part of Elijah does miss connecting to others. A much bigger part of him knows the risks of that, though. His own words may hold weight, but he’s not liable to trust the word of anyone else. At this point, Eli’s pretty resigned to traversing the world alone, unable to forgive himself for what he’s done in the past, and unable to trust those who haven’t proven themselves worthy of it yet. And why would they, once they find out what kind of person he is? But Eli is lonely, and there’s a tiny mostly-dead part of him that still kind of wishes he could be more. Guess that court-ordered quack finally got to him or whatever.

Short Fuse, Intense: Elijah tries to stay level-headed. He really does, and he has a small bag of tricks he uses from court-ordered therapy to keep him centered. He even prefers planning, if you’d believe it. But he’s not good at it, any of it; that charismatic well-doer was always his brother, better at reading rooms and taking things slowly. When something pushes Eli beyond box-breathing and counting to 10, he can be rash and extreme, resorting to outbursts of vulgarity, petty instigation, and even violence. Four years in juvie might have tamped him down to a functional level, but with his mind always on-edge, he’s never more than a short fuse.

Additional Information
His hobbies include excessive gymratting, listening to NF's "Let You Down" album, and eating as much outside food as his human body can handle.

Abilities

Ability Format
Standard

Advantages
+ Apex Attribute (Regeneration)
+ Apex Attribute (Reflexes)
+ Enhanced Attributes (Durability, Endurance)
+ Intuitive Aptitude (Firearms)
Disadvantages
- Debt Bound
- Otherworldly Disruption (illusions/voices)
- Starving

Core Advantage
Money Shot:
This object's standard appearance is an ordinary-looking glock with the words 'Money Shot' crudely engraved onto the side, but can take the form of a switchblade, a set of brass knuckles, or a wrist watch at the owner's command. As a firearm, Money Shot never runs out of ammunition. While the owner is within ten feet of Money Shot, they gain a minor, passive (and sometimes unreliable) boost to their good fortune. Additionally, attacks that the owner makes with the weapon forms of the object are more likely to hit and deal more severe damage than their mundane counterparts (up to 2x various parameters), and the watch always shows the correct current time.

The owner can temporarily boost the luck provided by Money Shot, but each time increases the chances of a potentially catastrophic reversal of fortune for the owner.

Ownership can be transferred willingly or if the object is stolen and remains in the new 'owner's' possession for three days.
Core Disadvantage
S.O.L.
Elijah’s powers are tied to his magic item, a multi-weapon-and-accessory called Money Shot. He only has access to these powers (advantages, disads, core, bonus) while the weapon is on his person or within 10 feet. In terms of Intuitive Aptitude— when out of range, he retains all knowledge and skill he had, but loses the accelerated learning.
Nerfs and Flavor
Otherworldly Disruption: Eli mostly sees shadows lurking just out of sight, keeping him on-edge and ready for a fight. He may also voices, sometimes from his memories, or see familiar and/or hostile faces in crowds. It is, perhaps, the soundside to weapon-related Apex Reflexes.

Starving: Without his items, Eli is just a human. His body wasn’t made to breeze through calories the same way, say, a dragon was. Though some of the inevitable excess gets burned off in the gym or in maintaining his apex/enhanced traits, he can’t actually eat or burn as much as his disadvantage demands, meaning he’s always stuck choosing between “chonky boi” and “hangry boi”.

Core Nerf: The gun is the source of Eli's powers. If stolen or moved too far away from him (around 30ish ft) he loses all abilities until it is returned to him. In the case of Intuitive Aptitude, he loses his enhanced learning speed, but retains all extant knowledge and skill

History

Date of Birth
July 2nd
Place of Birth
Oakland, CA
Elijah doesn't remember much about his birth mother, only that she wasn't around very much, and he remembers being distressed even when she was. Her face, though, is lost to him, because at the age of... around three, she dropped him off as collateral for a drug deal. He'd find out years later that she was found dead of an overdose a few blocks away, but they didn't tell him that for a while.

The dealer, an older woman, decided to keep Eli. Something about an old miscarriage and the chance to give her older (grand)son something to look after, since he wouldn't shut up about dogs. Joshua, his name was. Eli liked to bite, too, so it was perfect. By the time they managed to get ahold of his papers, the nickname Sharkie was stuck on him like a logo, and so it stayed.

As far as magic goes— Joshua took care of Eli's wakeup call without much pizaazz, waking him up the very same morning he was given his first lesson with Money Shot under Grandma's supervision (age 12— Eli was 4). However, it wasn't until Eli turned 10 that he was given his chance to start learning the weapon too. He and Joshua were to share it, work together as brothers and use it for protection, so dictated Grandma who'd acquired it in her... long career. It'd become theirs full time when she retired, but... she never got the chance.

Grandma, as Eli came to call her, finally bit the bullet one morning when Eli was 11, and Joshua was 19. Turns out a lifetime of heavy smoking and alcoholism isn't great for longevity. Joshua took Eli in, rather than turn him over to child services, and took up the family profession himself. By now, both had been working with Grandma on the side & training with her gun (Money Shot), and things went smoothly for a while.

Until they didn't. Eli was 13, almost 14, when he fucked up. Bad. He went rash and shot the wrong person at the wrong time during a high-stakes deal, and the resulting chaos was quite literally ballistic. Joshua was killed, as were several others and a couple responding officers, and Eli himself was badly injured. He snatched up Joshua's gun (Money Shot— now his core) and ran.

The cops found him the next day, and, too injured to keep running, he turned himself in. The resulting legal mumbo-jumbo left him in prison until the age of 18, whereafter his record would be clean. So, after some court-ordered residential therapy, he was carted off to juvie, where he remained for about 3 months prior to his release. Those last three months were spent in a half-way house, where he practiced some life skills and earned his driver's license.

After that, it was back to Oakland, where he caught up with his childhood pal Matt who'd saved some things for him from confiscation. Namely around 100k, some physical assets, and a kilo of coke. 2 weeks of motel stays and moving parts left him with a new car, 50k, and half a kilo, and then he was off.

Anything Else
Awakening Status: As mentioned, Eli was woken up at the age of 4, so he's spent most of his life in the know. That said, Oakland CA isn't exactly teeming with dragons and werewolves. His best friend may be a mesmer-happy siren, but Matt still looks human. Some stuff is bound to freak him out.
