Other
Most of Catalina’s inherently divine details are made mundane for sleepers, but still push the limits of how “striking” an ordinary woman can be.

HEARTSTONE:
A large, solid stone (black opal), opaque and extremely iridescent, centered low between Catalina’s breasts. It has a full-spectrum play of color, but primary colors are shades of blue, purple, and gold. There’s a single smallish dendritic crack, filled with black impurity, which branches further in accordance with the symptoms of Catalina’s core disadvantage.

This stone currently appears as an elaborate tattoo to sleepers, but looking at it for too long (let alone touching) tickles the veil, and it sometimes catches on the light.

Personality

Poised
A true introvert, Catalina is reserved, preferring to reveal herself at her own pace and on her own terms. Her tendency for mindfulness, paired with general poise and self-control, lends itself to a rather soft-spoken, level-headed, and articulate communication style. However, this same tendency can inadvertently leave a pretentious, even arrogant taste. Historically, Catalina has come off as distant or cold, especially during emotional conflict, and she’s careful to keep a guard up between herself and others. After all, it’s a pain to be misunderstood, and horses are much better listeners anyway.

Gracious:
Catalina is a compassionate individual, though not particularly prying or emotional in expressing it. Perhaps it’s the ‘goddess of benevolence’ within her, but she tries to quietly aleve suffering when she can, whether that’s buying a meal for the homeless or just offering a listening ear. That said, she honestly struggles to personally attach to others. Gaining Catalina’s trust is an arduous process, and her ‘gracious’ response to betrayal can be misleading; trust is gathered in drops and lost in droves, and rarely will Catalina forget what she’s forgiven.

Ambitious:
Catalina takes both great pride and great peace in pursuing her goals. Her main ambition has always been equestrian pursuits, namely show jumping and dressage, but her recent accident & its fallout have limited her ability to train. In addition to event horsemanship, Catalina also enjoys reading, painting, and even her school work. She also enjoys spending time in nature, often with her horses and familiars, and also devotes much reflection to dissecting recent events.

Additional Information
Turbulent: Catalina’s recent accident changed her life, her trajectory, and even her self-perception. She took her blessed health for granted and burned it away, and now the limits of her ‘new’ body might stand in the way of her dreams. Catalina feels… lost, anxious, even _empty_. With so much less to fill her day, and so many questions that only time can answer, Catalina is… searching, but for what, she has yet to find out.

Abilities

Ability Format
Standard / Spellcasting

Advantages
+ Elemental Control (Light)
+ Purification
+ Supernatural Beauty
Disadvantages
- Debt Bound
- Magically Dependant
- Weak Spot (Heartstone, a large opal embedded in her chest)
Spellcasting
The magical enhancement of natural stones into equivalent magical items & charms. These can be personal, portable charms (minor/major/momentous effects respectively lasting 1 month/1 week/1 hour), or can be bound to a room-sized (~20sqft) location (lasting 1 year/6 months/1 month, unless broken/removed). When a major/momentous effect is exhausted, charms revert to the stone’s minor effects

Minor Examples: Personal charms can weakly boost concentration, optimism, etc. Room charms have an anti-mundane-disease effect, glow when a profane visitor enters the room, etc.

Major Examples: Personal charms can noticeably lift brain fog; combat depression. Charmed locations can boost curse resistance; weakly trigger holy-related disadvantages.

Momentous Examples: Personal charms with powerful blessings for the user, like bestowing Rapid Learning & ‘Induce Joy/Euphoria’, or combating Imminence/Otherworldly Disruption. Location-bound charms can Consecrate or Purify room-sized areas. (If an area is Consecrated for 12 consecutive months without interruption, it becomes permanently holy.)
The generation and more advanced control of light, with emphasis on semi-to-fully tangible/permanent light constructs. This light may ping as Celestial (sun, moon, and/or star) and/or Holy. Solid constructs have ice-like durability. Semi-solid constructs are more like gelatin, with or without a weak shell.

Minor Examples: Glowing hands or a few crystals. Squishy light orbs. Small, more realistic illusions. Water-like ribbons of light.

Major Examples: Entire creatures & walls glow. Short term Illusory camouflage or blindness for self/1 person in sight. Permanent/AOE glow orbs, temporary solid dagger. Person Sized Illusions.

Momentous Examples: True invisibility for 10 minutes. Camouflage & blindness for 3-5 people for Major duration or longer for less people. Permanent lesser constructs, temporary larger solid/AOE semisolid constructs.

Core Advantage
Catalina can create up to 4 permanent familiars through a ritual communion with her originating goddess, which requires expensive materials and can only be completed on a solstice. All familiars have 2 sizes, with attributes that scale to the animal sleepers see them as (awakened references under pics tab). They can sense, communicate, and (when apart) mentally ‘call to’ each other & Catalina, and can fly. However, their physical wellness is tied to Catalina’s, and killing 1 incapacitates the entire “System” (including Catalina) for 24 hours. They all regen at 50% speed and only in celestial light. Lastly, all familiars are incapable of generally-accepted immorality, such as theft or non-defensive violence.

Current Familiars: (2/4)

Dipper || he/it

Sizes/Sleeper Equivalents: Mink, Afghan Hound
Unique Abilities: Dipper can use Camouflage and Amorphous Body in Mink form only, and can sense the location of lost/unclaimed valuables and trinkets within 20ft.

Calytrix || she/it
Sizes/Sleeper Equivalents: Husky, Akhal-Teke Horse (no flight)
Unique Abilities: Calytrix can generate very small amounts of light and heat. She can sense acute distress/pain/malicious intent, and mildly soothe this if her subject is willing.
Core Disadvantage
Catalina’s body is infused with various precious and/or heavy metals and stones, which give her no tangible benefits. The more vital the body part, the more valuable and stable the gemstones; her bones and heart may contain stable chunks of diamond, but the gold in her blood is useless without hurting her. Aside from danger and a bit of medical ineffectiveness, this would ordinarily cause no problems— however, due to the unrepaired damage to Catalina’s Weak Spot, these crystals are prone to overgrowth and autoimmune-type symptoms. They have to be managed with regular mundane and magical treatments, and can’t be cured until her Heartstone is too.
Bonus
Elemental Control (Crystals/Stones)—
Catalina can manipulate, levitate, and otherwise control the same types of healing stones and crystals she uses in her Stone Blessing magic.
Nerfs and Flavor
Title: Catalina’s divine title is “Demi-Goddess of Starlight, Benevolence, and Persistent Beauty”

Current Situation

Occupation
12th grade/True North
Housing
A ranch-style home on a large, meadowed property against the woods. It’s a short drive from town and features a small personal stable and a few paddocks, plus space for goats and chickens. There is further construction underway for a new equestrian center, name TBD.
Wealth
Decently wealthy via business, but most of their liquid savings went to Catalina’s medical expenses, the recent move, and current construction costs.

History

Date of Birth
December 21st
Place of Birth
Somewhere in Washington State, USA
Catalina was born of a blessing bestowed on her parents, a show of gratitude for saving an old goddess’ familiar while on a horseback journey abroad. Their only wish was for ‘a healthy child,’ and so they received a god-touched baby blessed with extraordinary vitality. After her birth, Catalina’s parents founded what would become one of the Pacific Coast’s most successful chains of equestrian centers. Catalina followed in her parents’ lead, growing into a passion for horses and showmanship. With dedication she carved a name for herself in dressage and showjumping, earning ribbons in local, state, and even regional competitions. However, between moving around to new locations, pursuing out-of-state competitions, and her strict daytime training, Catalina ended up fluctuating often between home- and private schooling & missed out on a lot of the connections made by her peers.

During Catalina’s 17th summer, she got into one of the most prestigious youth dressage training camps in America. It was both invigorating and brutal, and she found herself truly challenging her goddess-bestowed vigor for the first time in her life. Nevertheless, her strict (and often sacrificial) training led her to a seat in the national youth dressage championship, for which she trained herself (and her horse) harder than ever… too far, in fact. During the televised event, her mare spooked, and… the rest is a blur.

On all accounts, Catalina should have died or been permanently disfigured by the accident. However, her gift of vitality saved her life at its own final expense. When Catalina awoke from her multi-week coma, she discovered that her body was due to make a miracle recovery. However, the accident also cracked Catalina’s ‘Heartstone’, which the goddess’ gift could not heal. It resulted in Catalina’s core disadvantage & is the reason she’s in Polaris Pass today — seeking help from a local doctor who specializes in magical ailments.
