Laurie's parents were repressively religious and absolutely hated having a 'son' who identified as a girl and was interested in witchcraft and the occult. Various attempts to get this behaviour and interest to stop resulted in Laurie doubling down on her study, befriending a demon, and making a deal with her to surrender her body for a period of about seven years in exchange for a life far away and an appearance she identified with.
Only, that was a little over a year ago. The demon inhabiting Laurie's body- one Malicia Infernagony Scarmiglione Satanopheles du Malebolge- turned out to be such a virtuous bitch that she stopped being a demon altogether and, as a result, was yanked directly out of her friend's body to ejected from hell as an angel.
Now Laurie has to deal with being up five years early.
