Hilda was born during one of Valhalla's many, many, many, many... MANY drunken brawls, as the daughter of an Einherjar and a Valkyrie.
As a child, she didn't seem to care much for anything outside of fighting anyone, and everyone. Of course, there was plenty of this to go around in a place like Valhalla. Except that fighting day in and day out got pretty boring after a while. So, Hilda started looking for other ways to cause problems. Replacing mead with water, getting all the horses drunk, etc. She was a complete menace.
Eventually, however, she grew bored of that as well, but she soon found a new interest. Humans. After all, her "job" as a Valkyrie was to guide them to Valhalla, right? But Humans were just so.. weird. It made them fascinating.
At this point, Hilda began trying to learn as much as she could about Humans, and what made them tick. Be it grilling freshly arrived Einherjar about their life, or pestering other valkyries, almost nothing was off limits. All of this eventually culminated in Hilda attempting to sneak out of Valhalla to go live amongst humans, at least for a little while. Unsurprisingly, she was caught. However this time was a little different.
A valkyrie who had been living on Earth, Sylvi Throsblood, happened to be paying a visit to Asgard with her boyfriend, to request to be allowed to continue to live Earth just as Hilda had been trying to sneak out. As such, Odin saw an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Sylvi could train Hilda on Earth, while Hilda finally got her chance to live on Earth and explore Human life to her heart's content.
Of course, both had objections to this, but neither could really go against Odin, so in the end they agreed to the deal, for now.
