Anacorns & the Subliminal

    Description: The Anacorn is a unicorn with no physical horn (thus the name), having only a tiny pentacle where its horn should be. When they flair, their horn is a spiral cone of smoke and fire projecting out of the pentacle. They tend to have dark-colored fur with golden or silver tails and manes, moon-gray eyes, and three-toed hooves.

    The Blood Rite is a ritual to draw on specific aspects of their magic. The rite is simple: you take an ounce of your blood and set fire to it. Then, you envelop the object in question in the smoke. The Blood Rite's effect only lasts 24 hours.

    This is a custom species. Rules for usage are mentioned above; however, custom species are intended to depict a specific species (or otherwise), and their lore must be complied with.

    + Minor Illusions.
    + Illusory Touch: This character can choose to interact with illusions as though they were solid, tangible objects.
    + Animal Form: They use a Blood Rite to create and invoke their alternate form. But they are limited to one alternate form, so choose wisely.
    + Travel Home (Subliminal): They must use a portal and the Blood Rite to activate it.
    - Weakness (Sunlight): It burns and can be fatal if exposed for a long time. Moonlight does the same but to a lesser extent (causing pain). Under sunlight and a full moon, they lose all their magical abilities and are forced back into their true form.
    - True Name Bound (true hoofprint): It can be used to summon them to a dream and to trap them there.
    - Imminent: With the addition that humans feel a little uneasy around them.

    The Subliminal:

    The Subliminal is a sealed-off dimension/domain of perpetual twilight surrounded by a Dream Realm (one of many). In the Subliminal, dreams are Reality, and Reality is a dream. It is composed of an archipelago of several hundred islands (ranging from several hundred square feet to tens of thousands of square miles) in the Sea of Dreams.

    The border between the Dream Realm and the Subliminal is a virtually impassable wall of dream magic. Only an Anacorn with a special Nightstone called a Key can enter it, and only a specific dream and only once.

    The Sea of Dreams is several looping streams of dreams from those in the Dream Realm weaving between the islands. As such, they are ever-moving and ever-changing. The closer to the sea you get, the more chaotic the environment. Most use these streams to travel to the other parts of the Subliminal. To do so, you use a Nightstone to locate a Dreamscape (a patch of a single dream) and ride it to your destination or another exchange point. Warning: Dreamscapes are very real! If you step onto a dangerous one, you could end up dead.

    Above it all is a starry night sky that rotates once a year (360 days).

    Dream creatures populate here, including cryptids and paranormals that came here and some that Avax Set rescued and brought here. Still, the dominant species are the Anacorns (Avax Sets children).

    The Domains (states) can range from a single island to clusters of islands ruled by local governments under the rule of Avax Set from Nighthome. Of all the domains, three have acquired a reputation:
    • Nighthome (the capital of the Subliminal).
    • The Arachnid Provence (the home of Angeliet Hellstrom).
    • Purgatory (a maximum security prison where some of the vilest creatures, magics, and items are held).

    The only way to travel to and from the Subliminal is by a portal and a drop of Anicorn blood to activate it. There are four portals on the earth (one in Rome, London, Cairo, and Polaris Pass (the last is a private one that only Angel can use)).

    Nighthome is a walled city-state on a medium-sized island near the center of the Subliminal. It is where Avax Set rules from his tower. Around his building are districts representing the different domains and other districts such as the Market and Fair districts.

    Avax Set's tower is two miles tall and divided into four sections. The tallest is a spiraled cone that holds up the Lunar Clock (a small moon that shows the time of day by its phases). Below that is Avax Set's residence, a four-hundred-story library, and finally, the two-story base (all pentagonal).

    The base houses the Nighthome Academy (yes, children go to school even here), the alcoves that house the portal stones, and the Rainbow fountain in the center (a map of the Subliminal). Around the fountain's edge are 360 crystals (grouped into 12 sets of 30, representing each day and month of the year. Each group has a different color and name).

    The wall keeps the chaos out, keeping Nighthome more stable than the other domains. In the wall are four gates (north, south, east, and west) that allow you access to four major streams of the Sea of Dreams. Each has a pier leading out to the stream's center (most islands have similar structures).

    Nightstone:
    A nightstone is a crystallized drop of Avax Set's blood resembling an Apache tear. It comes in two forms: a simple form used to navigate the Subliminal and a Key only used by an Anacorn to enter a dream.
